I don't think I have seen any new messages in this conference since the
New Year.

That depends on how broadly one defines "your part of the globe". Down
in the States, there was a storm a couple of weeks ago that did a lot
of damage, spawning tornadoes, etc.. Here, we just got the edge of it,
which caused some snow to fall, but nothing terrible. We have had some
remarkably cold weather this March. A few nights ago, the temperature
went down to about -25C. But that's okay, once in a while. It kills off
all the nasty bugs and reptiles that would otherwise come slithering
in. Now, spring seems to be arriving. The temperature went above
freezing point today, for the first time in a while. They're predicting
we may see 10C next week.

This Sunday, March 11, we're putting the clocks ahead for Daylight
Saving Time. That's a sure portent of summer!

G'morning David,

DW> I don't think I have seen any new messages in this conference since the

Wasn't there some talk over the comet McNaught ? Around the end
of January ?

Summer finally arrived here over the last month, and there's a
30,000 strong petition to extend Daylight Saving by a month or so
- can't be implemented until some future year, so the current
aberration cannot be harvested...

Do I recall that your part of the globe copped some very bad
storms recently ?

Miles.

And in most of Canada. The inconvenience of being out of step with the
US is deemed to be worse than killing some extra people on the roads.

The province of Saskatchewan does not change its clocks. Never has;
probably never will. There are a few other small areas where the clocks
don't change, too, mostly near the borders of time-zones.

That's good - I had a fuzzy memory of wind and rain damage, but it
must have been that caused to your neighbour...

Well, the reverse is true down here - highs around the country up
to 35 or 40C (almost Australian temperatures) and drought all
about.

Miles.

G'morning Roger,

RN> *1. Clocks Go Forward on March 11*
RN> ----------------------------------
RN> Remember to set your clocks forward one hour on Sunday, March
RN> 11. The starting and ending dates of Daylight Saving Time
RN> (DST) changed this year as a result of the Energy Policy Act
RN> of 2005.

Good one - there's a Scottish calendar hanging beside me that
gives the 11th as the day "Daylisht Saving Time begins", so the
Scotties are with you, too.

Down here in the Antipodes, NZ reverts an hour on the 19th to
"Standard Time", even though there's a move to hang on for
longer.

Unfortunately, the nights will shorten dramatically over the next
7 days (experience with organising early evening cycle races for
10 years), making the 19th a welcome change...

Miles.

It's the added cost of adding an anticorrosive additive
inj sufficient quantities over a period of many years.

The cost in any given time period would have been diminutive
however the resulting accumulated corrosion has far exceeded
any costs that additive might have attained.

As a result of the oil companies negligence in adaquately maintaining
their pipelines to as you say optimise their profits they are indeed
once again sticking it to the consumer.
